I finally got my beautiful girlfriend to take part in my Project 365; I hope on having her regularly appear in my photos…she’s the beauty while I’m the beast so I really need her help in making my picture more graceful! She’s my everyday sunshine, the reason why I smile so much at times! We’re celebrating our 5 year anniversary on the 15th of February actually…we met in Leeds (UK) while we were both Erasmus students. While I got a teaching postgraduate degree, she went back to Madrid to finish her studies, missing large chunks of that year to see me. Eventually she couldn’t take the British weather anymore (sorry folks, can you blame her?) and kind of got me thinking about moving to Madrid. I’ve been here nearly three years, and we’ve lived together for two; to her parent’s horror (that’s another story for later).

I know this isn’t very original but I’ve wanted to do a photo of me jumping for a while now, ever since my failed attempts Day 12. I didn’t exactly get the perfect shot either today, but it’s not bad. A little girl, two years old perhaps, stared and pointed at me for about 10 min. After calling her for about 5 minutes, her parents eventually came and took her against her will, she started crying, I felt bad…then I had to stop, too many people were staring at me. Still this was fun and I’ll try again with the timer this time, as jumping and pressing the wireless remote at the same time isn’t easy!

Nothing special today…just Yin and Yang. I took the day off, trying to get some things done. Went to my bank to try to change offices as mine was miles and miles away, when there is another office 2 min walk from my house. It took about half an hour to get that done, which is ridiculous. Then I asked for a savings account and she looked at me laughing asking what I meant. Apparently they have special accounts for if you want to save to buy a house or for retirement, but all she offered me was another account like the one I have, for which I would have to pay every year and I would have to pay a fee on every transaction. Are they insane??? Walked down to an ING Direct office near work (I had to go to work because I forgot my mobile cable yesterday and was out of battery), opened an ING Orange account, in 25 minutes, active as of now, no fees, nothing to pay at all…I get 3% the first 4 months then it’s like 1.5% interests, which is better than getting nothing from BBVA (my bank) and having to pay yearly fees and transactions fees. I was going to go out and shoot some, but my knee has been hurting, swelling…going to relax and watch what will probably be a horrible movie.

This is a photo of the Temple of Debod, dating to early 2nd century BC, an ancient Egyptian temple which was rebuilt in Madrid, Spain.
In 1960, due to the construction of the Great Dam of Aswan and the consequent threat posed to several monuments and archeological sites, UNESCO made an international call to save this rich historical legacy. As a sign of gratitude for the help provided by Spain in saving the temples of Abu Simbel, the Egyptian state donated the temple of Debod to Spain in 1968. The temple was rebuilt in one of Spain’s most beautiful parks, the Parque de Rosales, near the royal palace of Madrid, and opened to the public in 1972.
The weather was quiet horrible but at least this makes the clouds stand out I guess…I’ll have to take this picture at sunset this summer.

While passing through Madrid’s city centre yesterday (I post the day’s Project 365 photo the next morning)…these two gentleman were playing a sort of jazz/blues tune right there in the middle of nowhere; they had quiet an audience as well. There are many musicians playing all around Madrid, mostly in the metro terminals and even in the trains themselves. Some are good and some are just horrible. It reminds me of this gentleman who must be at least 80 years old and who plays near my house; he’s horrible at the violin but he puts so mush effort and heart into it that you can’t help but give him a coin or some food.
By the way: This is one of my favorite ones so far—

I love cooking, not because I’m French…although it might have a role; but I love creating something from scratch (almost every day)! It relaxes me and it makes me the best boy friend ever in my girlfriend’s eyes!!! I’ve been cooking a lot more Spanish recipes lately, simple things mind you, like Tortilla, Cocido, Salmorejo and all sorts of tapas when we have friends over…I still cook French but my girlfriend tries to prevent me from using butter as much as possible as it’s high in fat…still, it’s well know that the three main ingredients in French cooking are: Butter, butter and more butter!!!

I wanted to get back to natural looking photos and avoid doing a montage today; although I enjoy doing them and they can be funny. Here, a simple picture of these tiny little red things (have no idea what they are named) growing all over Madrid. Hope you guys are having a great weekend!!!

I’ve been seeing these self portraits lately on Flickr of people holding up a sign, saying where they are from and what their country invented. I wanted to take this idea and give it a twist! I’m French and of all the things France brought to the world…we certainly did come up with the following: French Fries (nor freedom fries for that matter); French Toats or even the French Kiss!!!
I didn’t actually take this photo in Paris today, I live in Madrid; this was photoshoped obviously. Hope you enjoy!
